HEAT 2

Start of heat 2 – the first 2 boats through the gate Barker/Cripps (8743) and Payne/Masterman (8481) finished 2nd and 6th in this race. Durban hotel precint in the backround.

Martin/Bourdow approaching the finish.

Margin between Martin/Bourdow and Barker/Cripps was small.

High fives for the winners.

Barker/Cripps crossing for second.

Hamlin/Alarie finished 3rd-Flattest boat out there.
The secret appears to be to look backwards.

4th and 5th were also close. Bergstrom/Moss ahead of Saugmann/Ramsbaek.

Heat 4

Aussies Olson/Gregory charging down the 1st reach of  the 3rd lap.

Nelson/Welch a little overpowered on the same reach.

Local RSA sailmaker Ellens and crew Hogg about to encounter a typical Durban wave.

Barker/Cripps looking composed in 2nd place.

Close finish between Payne/Masterman (8481) and Holt/Godfrey (8752).
Payne/Masterman ducked the stern and finished ahead.

Filimonow/Stockman approaching the finish.

new Van Munster handles the waves.

Heat 5

Heat winner and now 5 times world champion Bergstrom/Moss
negotiate a wave towards the finish.

And almost disappears from sight in the next trough.

Pinnell/Powell finished 2nd.

Pinnell/Powell finding it difficult to keep the boat flat.

Edwards/Shelton flagging the main near the finish.

Barker/Cripps flagging even more main.

Payne/Masterman (8481) in another close finish.
This time with Saugmann/Ramsbaek (8620) and Schoenherr/Kaempe (8728).

Locals Warne/Schwegman getting plenty of air under the boat.
