Performance Boom Bracket
& Boom End Fittings
The Selden design team have been very busy this summer developing the latest range of new products for the Proctor Performance dinghy spars. By using the latest in composite technology, the fittings are strong, light weight, have unparalleled functionality, corrosion free and engineered to the last micron to offer the best performance.
Performance Boom Bracket
The new design boom bracket (gooseneck) fitting features a round pin to allow the boom to rotate in the load direction. This reduces stress loads in both the boom bracket and boom end. The pin is now longer and engages into a tight fitting hole to limit any ‘play’ in the mast/boom join.
The bracket fitted to the mast now has a larger ‘foot print’ making for a stronger bracket, manufactured from the latest composite to reduce any electrolytic reaction with the alloy or carbon mast wall.
The fitting features a neat hole for ‘dead ending’ the cunningham line as well.
Unique Gooseneck Lock
The gooseneck/boom inboard end fitting features a unique locking system to give the gooseneck a positive engagement onto the boom. This feature prevents the boom falling off the gooseneck when dropping the mainsail, saving any damage to the deck. It is also very useful when using a boom-up cover.
Inboard Boom End
The boom bracket is complimented by a new inboard boom end fitting. This offers three sheave lead options for outhaul, reefing lines, flatteners, internal pole retraction systems etc.. These sheaves can easily be interchanged with high load or ball bearing sheaves as required by simply removing the blue clip and releasing the axial pin.
The sail entry of the new fitting is now an in-built sail feeder for guiding the mainsail clew with the whole fitting moulded in composite to prevent electrolytic action with the boom tube.

Outboard End Fitting
The outboard end has matching functionality with the inboard end. With two sheaves for outhaul/flattener/reefing options, removable axial pins for sheave changing, and the in-built sail feeder for the unique feature of allowing mainsail removal over the generally less ‘cluttered’ transom.
The fitting incorporates three locking options for the lines, either via two ‘pegs’ on the side of the fittings or via a ‘V’ groove internally underneath the starboard sheave.
Compatibility
Although the new fittings are an excellent addition to the spar range there will be initial interface problems when matching a new mast with an old style boom (and vice-versa). All old style gooseneck pins and toggles fit in the new design boom bracket (i.e. your old gooseneck toggle can be used on a new mast). If this is not available, old style pins will still be available (part no: 048234).

All new booms will be supplied for a four month period with a new style gooseneck pin (that is compatible with old style brackets). After this time, if a new boom end is found to be not compatible with an old mast, the correct kit can be supplied (part no: 528-086-09).
