The RS800 delivers the kind of performance most dinghy racers dream about. Yet, by minimising weight and drag, the RS800 is powered to astonishing speeds using a relatively small rig that is light and remarkably easy to handle.

This means mixed teams can competitively race the RS800 and it is uncompromising fun to sail.

RS800

When LDC Racing Sailboats began development the RS800, we had a tough set of goals to achieve. The fundamental aim for the RS800 was to create a truly high-speed trapeze skiff that was significantly easier to sail than existing boats in this performance sector. The boat had to open up that type of sailing to a wider range of teams, including men and women, and above all, make it fun.

RS800In order to make the boat easier and lighter to sail, we wanted a relatively small rig. The only way to make a boat with a small rig very fast was to make it ultra light and exceptionally easily driven.

All RS dinghies have earned the reputation for being well developed and refined boats. The RS800 took twice as long as any other to perfect. We tested the boundaries in many elements of small boat design. The result is a fantastic new skiff that will enable thousands of sailors to experience the thrill of high performance sailing in the new millennium.

THE HULL

  • The hull is long and has a narrow waterline, to reduce the drag.
  • Flared topsides give reserve buoyancy for easier handling.
  • Large, carefully positioned kick blocks make the transition from cockpit to trapeze very easy.
  • The cockpit design offers the helmsman a secure steering position from which to initiate manoeuvres.
  • The RS800 hull alone weighs in at only 62kg and ready to sail the whole outfit is a staggering 110kg light.
  • The construction system uses the tried and tested RS epoxy foam sandwich laminate, which is immensely strong.
  • Foils are resin transfer moulded for strength and light weight.
  • The fittings layout is simple to allow easy adjustment and heads up sailing.

DUAL MODE AND PERFORMANCE EQUALISED

  • Another innovative feature of the RS800 is that it can be sailed in either single or twin trapeze modes. The racks are adjustable to  compensate for the leverage exerted by different weight teams either single or twin wire sailing. A simple weight table gives the correct rack width settings for each team to use and then everyone competes on level terms.

RIG

  • Carbon mast for light weight and gust response.
  • Sealed mast to reduce the tendency for the boat to invert when capsized.
  • Main and jib built from ultra light, strong and high visibility mylar / kevlar laminate.
  • Only the top two mainsail battens are full length, to create a light and forgiving rig.
  • Self tacking jib for easy manoeuvres.
  • Large spinnaker chute forward of the jib tack for fast hoists and drops with minimum loads.
  • Spinnaker design to minimise sheet loads.

If you want the excitement of a high performance skiff…

If you want action packed one-design racing…

If you want a boat you can enjoy without full time practice…

If you want a boat that you can race with a guy or a girl…

The RS800 is the boat for you
