Subject: Changes in the "505world-list" listserver
There are currently just over 500 people who have "signed up" for the
"505world-list" listserver. With this many people on the listserver, the time
has come to split off the "505 US" traffic to a separate list.
The new "505usa" list is being set up now, and we hope to have it available for
use very shortly. All "US interest only" traffic should go to the new
"505usa" listserver, not the existing "505world-list".
We are also setting up a new "505 world announcement" listserver. This new
listserver will be used ONLY to distribute class announcements from class officers, and
will therefore have much lower traffic than the "505world-list", which will
continue to be used for discussion. We hope that class members who do not wish to receive
general 505 world discussion e-mails, will choose to subscribe to the new "505 world
announcement" listserver, even if they choose to not subscribe to the
"505world-list", which will become the "discussion" listserver.
Finally, the rules govering the use of "505world-list" are being revised, and
will be circulated on the list, soon. We hope that adherence to these revised rules will
ensure that the discussion list remains interesting and of value to the maximum number of
people, around the world.

Subject: New 505 Listservers: 505world-announce, 505usa and
505usa-announce
There are now 3 new 505 Email lists available:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
The first list was created in
response to the growing need for a low-traffic list that everyone can subscribe to and
which will propagate information from the International 505 Class officers to the class
members and interested people. This 505world-announce list is a "listen-only"
list. The only people who will be able to post to it will be the International Class
officers.
ALL EXISTING 505world-list members have been AUTOMATICALLY subscribed to the
505world-announce list. Instructions for unsubscribing yourself are located further down
in this email.
The existing 505world-list will remain the vehicle for discussions of international
interest. For example: the 505world-announce list will notify you of proposed rule changes
and would be the method by which ballots are emailed out. These ballots will NOT replace
the paper ballots which
will also be mailed out as we have done in the past. The existing 505world-list will
remain the place to discuss these rule changes, and other topics of interest to 505
sailors around the world.
The next two lists are for the purpose of propagating 505 information of US interest only
to sailors in the US, North America, and elsewhere.
If you want to participate in these two US lists, you will have to subscribe yourself
using the instructions in this email. There will be a Web page for automated subscription
in the near future.
The 505usa-announce list is also a listen-only list which can be posted to only by the US
class officers. You may subscribe yourself to this list. It will ask you to confirm your
subscription request. Because there is a not-so-intelligent program receiving your
response, there is no room for interpretation in the way you respond. You must follow the
instructions you get back (via an e-mail) explicitly.
The 505usa list is for discussion of matters specifically of US 505 interest.
If you are currently on 505world-list and are interested in what is going in the US 505
"scene", you should subscribe to one or both of 505usa-announce and 505usa.
