FISTS FLY AS COMPETITORS BOARD OTHER BOATS IN SEA-LAND 43RD INTERNATIONAL 505 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

HYANNIS, MASS. - Tempers flew in the 6th race of the Sea-Land 43rd International 505 World Championship today. At a leeward mark rounding, two teams strongly disagreed about who had the right of way, and the result was the skipper of one boat jumping into the other boat, and swinging his fists. Witnesses saw three people in one 505, which is explicitly not allowed by the class rules. The crew of the boat seen with three people in it, was quoted as saying, "Piss off, you haven't bought a ticket!"

The crew of the boat missing a competitor was busy trying to get the spinnaker down, and denies seeing anything. "I was just getting the kite down", he said. "I heard a splash and realized I was alone in the boat! I got the kite down, grabbed the tiller, steered the boat over to where my skipper was in the water, picked him up, did a 720 in case, and carried on"

The other team involved retired from the race, though whether the retirement was over this incident is not clear.

As of press time, there are no reports of injuries arising from the incident.
