100 SAILBOATS DESCEND ON HYANNIS FOR SEA-LAND 43rd INTERNATIONAL 505 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - LARGEST HIGH PERFORMANCE DINGHY EVENT IN NORTH AMERICA

HYANNIS, MASS - Event Chairman David Crawford announced today that 98 teams had pre-registered for the Sea-Land International 505 North American Championships and the Sea-Land 43rd International 505 World Championship, making this the largest high performance dinghy event in North American for many years. Several shipping containers containing 505 sailboats from Europe and Australia are already on site. A total of over 100 two person teams from nine countries are expected to participate.

"This regatta is shaping up as the largest single class high performance dinghy event held in North America in at least the last ten years", said Hyannis Yacht Club member and Event Chairman David Crawford.

With over 1200 members in 18 countries, the International 505 class is the largest and most active two person high performance dinghy class in the world, providing the highest level of non Olympic racing available. Despite its exceptional performance, the 505 is relatively easy to sail; but a challenge to sail well! It is raced by Olympic medalists and club sailors, men and women, juniors and seniors, on lakes and on oceans, in drifters and in 35+ knots. Many of the best known names in International Sailing have raced, or currently race 505s.

International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association Vice President Alexander Meller stated, "Top sailors from a number of countries are looking forward to racing at the Hyannis Yacht Club in one the largest 505 world championships to date - and almost certainly the largest high performance dinghy event in North America."

Registration for the Sea-Land 505 North American Championship begins September 12th, with the first two races September 14th. Registration for the Sea-Land 505 World Championship begins September 18th, with the first points race on September 19th. Worlds races are one a day through September 25th. Sea-Land is the title sponsor for both events, other sponsors include McLube, Ronstan, North Sails, Ullman Sails, Heineken, Chester's Cider, and Ipswich Ale.
