2001 World Championship GENERAL INFORMATION Cascais is the Atlantic door of the Portuguese capital, 8 Km far from Cabo da Roca, the Western most point in Europe reserves for itself the privilege, of offering the first contact with the land after the vastness of the ocean to the cosmopolitan world that seeks Portugal. The principal quality tourist resort in Portugal, because of its modern world qualities, Cascais, situated 20 Km from Lisbon, remains, however faithful to the traditions of a fishing town. From Portuguese border of Elvas / Badajoz there is a Highway (IP 7 / IP 1) until Lisbon crossing the Tagus Bridge. From then onwards another one (A 5) goes straight to Cascais (approximately 240 Km in total). We recommend the route by car via Madrid (more 80 Km, but highway all the way). For the boats transportation there are roll-on-roll-off ships sailing regularly to the Ports of Lisbon and Setúbal (30 Km south of Lisbon) from the following European Ports Zeebruge, Belgium Le Havre, France Plymouth or Portsmouth, U.K. Vlissingen, Holland. Another transport alternative will be by container from Ports in Europe, America and Africa to and from Lisbon. The Estoril Coast, "Costa do Estoril", as this region is internationally known, is the pioneering tourist region of Portugal. Its natural beaches, of which Guincho is the finest example, are greatest attraction of this region that asserts itself not only because of its admirable location but also because of the pleasantness of its climate and outstanding sailing conditions. In September the see is calm, generally smooth or small swell and the wind usually is Northwest, force 2 to 5 (Beaufort). The distance between the Club and the race area is aprox. 1 to 1,5 mile and at least two major areas can be operated within this distance at the same time. A harmony and greatness that extend to the interior of the beautiful Sintra mountain with the magnificent journeys and wonderful sightseeing. Estoril Casino, the innumerable clubs, discos, the esplanades and typical restaurants with fish and shellfish of the region that has long maritime traditions We will host at September, 19 to 28 the 2001- 505 World Championship. Our goal will be, by one side, to adjust logistics organization to the main championship, and to allow all selected international attendants to tests special sailing conditions in Cascais bay. |
