German team Hunger/Jess conquers world title
The last race of the Quebramar - 505 World
Championship was cancelled, due to the instable weather conditions registered in the bay
of Cascais, and the germans Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess are the new
world champions.
As todays race was cancelled, the classification maintained the same as yesterday and
Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess became the first german team to win this title.
Their worst result in the championship was as tenth place (discarded) in the second race
and they got one victory, two second places, one third, one fifth and one ninth.
In the second place of the podium, with ten more points than the champions, came the
britsh team Ian Pinnell / Tim Hancock, followed by the swedes Krister Bergstrom
and Thomas Moss, with more 11 points.
MySkipper.com spoke with Ali Meller, president of the International 505
Class Association, that admited he was «disapointed by the fact that the last race was
cancelled » but, in the overall, he is happy with the event: «we had a
championship with very instable wind conditions were Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess was
stronger then the other top teams and the only ones to maintain consistency throughtout
the event. I think that, once again, we have find a new worthy world champion».
