NOVEMBER 2002

On Sunday October 27, Jan Moller (505 DEN 8556) is starting in his 12.2 meter (40 foot) single hander to be the first from scandinavia (and the first 505 sailor I believe), to sail around the globe, alone, nonstop!!
Check out this video documentary, it is in danish, but some of you will figure out what the meaning is.

Jan Moller is a several time 505 danish and scandinavian champion, his most recent championship was the Eurocup on lake Garda in 2000.

We wish the best of luck to Jan, and expect him to be back in Denmark in good time to prepare for the worlds in Malmø.

Cheers

OKTOBER 2002

The October 2002 Sailing World magazine has an interview with Trevor Baylis (won I-14 and Aussie 18 worlds crewing last year) on boatspeed in high performance boats in which the first boat he mentions is the 505.

There were only fourty-five 505s on the startline, and not so many boats as expected. We had one week of wonderful sailing in 24 degrees water and 35 degrees air temperature. On the first day we had one race with 10 growing up to 20 knots wind. Krister Bergstroms forestay broke in this race when he was in the lead after the first lap, so he had to retire. On the following two days we had three nice races with about 15 knots of wind. After the layday we had two very hard races with maximum wind under the cliff over 35-40 knots. On the last day it was very windy again. Krister and Thomas sailed very good with the places DNF 5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, DNF. Goerges had a safe second place overall. The following boats were very close.
We had races only in the afternoon, and so we had big parties every night. Now I will not terrorize You any longer with my bad english. A detailed report will come from Ian Pinnell. But everybody who wasn't at the europeans missed the best event of the year. See You, Wolfgang Stueckl GER 8633

MAJ 2002

Is a group of wooden 505 (or older plastic ones with wooden foredeck) lovers. Our goal is to restore, maintain and sail these boats. Today, about 80 boats are listed. On June 1st and 2nd, we organize some races near Paris. On September 14th and 15th, an international gathering will take place also near Paris. All swedish boats that can be interested in our activities are welcome!
